What Does LFGB Food Grade Mean?
LFGB stands for Lebensmittel- und Futtermittelgesetzbuch, which is the German Food, Commodities and Feed Code.
In simple terms, LFGB is a European food contact testing standard used for materials that come into contact with food, including silicone.
LFGB testing is often viewed as one of the strictest food contact standards for silicone products. It does not just look at whether a product is broadly food-safe; it also focuses closely on whether unwanted substances may transfer from the product into food.
For silicone products, LFGB testing can include checks around migration, volatile substances, sensory impact, odour and taste.
This means the finished product is tested with a higher level of scrutiny, helping ensure it is suitable for direct food contact and everyday kitchen use.
